I spoke at the #18NTC (2018 Nonprofit Tech Conference in NOLA) with Steve Jacobs of Precision Strategies, and wanted to share the slides and key takeaways with you all.

The presentation focused on creating compelling digital content that drives action - whether that's donations, sign-ups, or social shares. We explored the intersection of emotion and data, showing how nonprofits can craft stories that resonate while maintaining measurable impact.

Key points we covered:

1. Lead with emotion, back with data Great nonprofit content makes people feel something first. But to sustain engagement and prove impact, you need solid metrics.

2. Know your audience deeply Segment, test, and learn. What works for one donor segment may not work for another.

3. Authentic stories beat polished marketing Real stories from real beneficiaries create connection. Perfection can feel distant.

4. Timing is everything Understanding when your audience is most receptive can dramatically increase engagement.

5. Multi-channel consistency Your message should feel unified whether someone encounters it on social, email, or your website.

Thank you to everyone who attended and to the NTC for having us!
